Roanoke, VA- In honor of Veterans’ Day, the City of Roanoke is collaborating with the Roanoke Valley Veterans’ Council to support the planting of trees around the City. On Friday, November 9, veteran and citizen volunteers will plant trees in various locations around the City to honor our heroes while beautifying Roanoke. The City’s Urban Forestry office and the City’s Tree Steward volunteers will support the effort by preparing planting sites and facilitating the planting events.
The Veterans’ Council is seeking individual and corporate donations to obtain trees for the event as well as volunteers to aid in the planting. The cost of the trees averages $200.00 each. Employers are asked to give their veteran employees time off on November 9 to volunteer for this project.
Veterans and interested citizens can volunteer to help plant trees by registering at http://bit.ly/TreesForVeterans. Those interested in donating for the acquisition of trees may send funds to the Roanoke Valley Veterans’ Council, c/o Bill Bestpitch, Treasurer, 2110 Stephenson Avenue, Apt. 9, Roanoke, VA 24014. Please make checks payable to the Roanoke Valley Veterans’ Council.
If there are questions about the volunteer registration process or making donations, please contact Bill Bestpitch at firstname.lastname@example.org or 540-761-6566.
