Plaque Dedication for Former Parks and Recreation Director to Take Place at Elmwood Park

ROANOKE, VA—Roanoke Parks and Recreation will recognize its former director, Steve Buschor, in a plaque dedication ceremony at Elmwood Park on Wednesday, April 25, at 11:30 a.m. Buschor passed away in 2016 after a brief battle with cancer. The dedication ceremony will recognize his time with the city and his passion for parks and recreation.

Buschor spent more than 30 years of his life in the parks and recreation field, nearly half of which were serving the City of Roanoke. Under his leadership, the department became a cutting-edge, nationally accredited agency.

There were many crowning achievements for the department under Buschor’s leadership, but the one of which he was most proud was the Elmwood Park Improvement Project. He knew that, with its premier location, Elmwood could be the hub of cultural events for the entire region. He envisioned a space for shows, festivals, play, and relaxation, and his vision became a reality in 2014.

The Department, City staff, City officials, and Buschor’s family will gather at Elmwood Park on Wednesday to pay tribute to Buschor’s life and his impact on Roanoke.
