City to Hold Public Hearing to Receive, Appropriate ARPA Funding

A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 11:30 a.m., during a special meeting of Roanoke City Council to allow the City of Roanoke to receive and appropriate funding in the amount of $64,576,671 in Fiscal Recovery Funds awarded by the United States through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These funds are intended to provide government entities support in their response to the impacts of COVID-19. 

Half of the funding, $32,288,335.50, has been received and the remaining funding is expected to be received in June 2022.   Additionally, the City of Roanoke proposes to amend the FY 2020-2021 Adopted Budget through the appropriation of ARPA funding allowable due to revenue loss. The manner in which the current FY 2020-2021 Adopted Budget will be amended as a result of such additional ARPA funding has not been determined, and will based on recommendations received at the public hearing and recommendations made by a task force to be included in a report to be delivered to City Council in September 2021.  

The public hearing will be held in the Council Chamber at the Noel C. Taylor Municipal Building, and conducted by electronic communication means due to the COVID-19 pandemic disaster. All persons wishing to address City Council must sign up in advance by contacting the City Clerk’s Office via email at or by calling (540) 853-2541 by 8:30 a.m., on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. Citizens who register will be provided information to present their testimony via electronic communications means through Zoom within such reasonable time limits as shall be determined by City Council.
