About the Organization
Gainsboro, Roanoke's oldest community, is part of the overall neighborhood fabric of Roanoke. The Gainsboro Southwest Community Organization boundaries are Shenandoah Avenue west to 5th Street, north to Harrison Avenue, east to Gainsboro Road, south to Patton Avenue, east to Jefferson Street (excluding Gainsboro Library, south along Jefferson Street to Shenandoah Avenue). Included within this neighborhood are numerous buildings of historic interest that provide a link to Roanoke's past.
Located in the heart of Roanoke just north of the City Market, Gainsboro has convenient access to downtown and other parts of the city.
The area represented by the Gainsborough Southwest Community Organization, Inc. is included in the Gainsboro Neighborhood Plan. This plan is a component of the City's 2001-2020 Comprehensive Plan that provides detailed information about the neighborhood and serves as a guide for public and private decisions regarding land use, capital improvements and other projects planned in the neighborhood
