Our mission is to educate, inform, and inspire our community by effectively, efficiently, and creatively communicating municipal news.
We use the tools of technology, public relations, marketing, and advertising to build a connected community of stakeholders.
We keep internal and external customers advised of city-related events and information via public service announcements, news releases, public and employee newsletters and magazines, communications to members of City Council, RVTV-3, and the Internet. We also provide staff assistance to all departments regarding marketing services through the preparation of booklets, brochures, and other publications and events.
In addition to traditional communication tools, the Office of Communications uses social media applications such as Facebook and Twitter to relay information to a broader spectrum of citizens. Links to these application sites are posted on this webpage at the top right. You can also find videos on the website about the city, its projects and programs. We invite you to view these by using the “About” dropdown menu on our homepage to select “Roanoke videos.” In addition, stories about what’s happening in the city and highlighting city services are now posted in a digital format on our Communications webpage under the Electronic Articles link. By clicking the link below, you can sign up to receive "City News at a Glance" which is the city's electronic newsletter. We will continue to explore new ways to “get the word out” and keep citizens informed about city news, activities and events.
