The City of Roanoke partners with the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority (RVRA) to provide a Household Hazardous Waste Collection service to the citizens of Roanoke, Roanoke County, and the Town of Vinton. Residents of these localities can bring certain types of household hazardous waste to RVRA'sTinker Creek Transfer Station, located at 1020 Hollins Rd. NE, during normal business hours (Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.).
The following items are accepted daily without the need for prior registration:
Lead-acid vehicle batteries
Used motor oil (up to 5 gallons)
Latex paint (up to 5 gallons)
Antifreeze (up to 5 gallons)
Many other types of household hazardous waste may be disposed of on the third Saturday of every month. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR THESE EVENTS, and can be completed by calling (540) 857-5071 no later than 24 hours prior to the event. For a list of accepted items, visit RVRA.net.
