Bacteria In Our Streams

The Upper Roanoke River Watershed connects all of us and clean water is imperative to healthy households, vibrant communities, and growing economies. Moving forward we must work together to solve the challenges the Roanoke River and its 13 tributaries face for today and future generations.

Bacteria comes from numerous sources like pet waste, wildlife, livestock, failing septic systems or straight pipes, septic sewer overflows and leaking sewer pipes.

One easy thing that we can all do that doesn't cost any money is pick up our pet's waste to keep bacteria from being washed into the stormdrain and then into the nearest creek untreated.
