Welcome to the Virginia Room, the Roanoke Public Libraries' collection of historical and genealogical research resources. A non-circulation research library, we collect materials for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Roanoke Valley. This includes items relating to the entire state and those states that are closely tied to Virginia and its people by birth, immigration, migration or by boundary divisions. We are committed to connecting people with the information they seek.
Star Stories The Virginia Room is partnering with the City, Hollins University, Blue Ridge Literacy, and other partners to launch Star Stories, a project that collects the stories of Roanoke from the people who live in and love the City. We in the Virginia Room see this project as an extension of our previous Neighborhood Oral History Project and a way for us to gather the current history and culture of Roanoke for future generations.
Classes are free. Registration is required. All classes are 1 hour (unless otherwise specified). Want to find out what's happening at your library? Check out The Spot, the library's monthly newsletter, online.
