Building Safety

Our mission is to promote excellence in planning, building, and development. We encourage public collaboration and engage best management practices and methods to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and quality architectural design in the City of Roanoke and the region.

Building Safety, headed by Building Commissioner Neil Holland, CBO, is divided into two sections: Applications and Review Services and Field Inspections.
  • Applications and Review Services is managed by Bane Compton, Deputy Building Commissioner. Bane is responsible for coordinating permit applications with the Permit Center and overseeing the building plan review process.
  • Inspections and Field Services is managed by Keith St.Clair, Deputy Building Commissioner. Keith is responsible for coordinating the daily activities of our field inspectors, resolving any issues that arise in the course of field inspections, and coordinating with our plan review staff when needed.
